Dream House is a CGI short film exploring the ontological shift in human representation following the apparition of digital images. Taking place within a vast cinema soundstage where a virtual production set is being assembled, the film uses the structures generated by digital image production—LED walls, camera rigs, test cards— as characters and visual elements within a metafictional narrative. Stripped of their utilitarian roles, these structures mutate into estranged temples for a post-photographic age, their geometries echoing the new cognitive frameworks demanded by synthetic imagery.
At the film’s core prowls an androgynous entity, a composite of commedia dell’arte zanni, silent-film pantomime, and mythical trickster, whose presence corrodes the illusion it inhabits. This archetypal shapeshifter, distilled from centuries of performative fiction, becomes a destabilizing force, bringing about the metaphorical collapse of the stage it enters. This collapse is not an endpoint, but an unveiling of a deeper stratum of construction. By re-enchanting the protocols of digital image making, the film positions the soundstage as a physical manifestation of human imagination where technology’s architectures become sites of collective unconscious negotiation.
