Valentin Gillet (b.1994) is a French artist based in Paris. After completing a first MA in applied arts at the ESAG school of design in Paris in 2017, he worked as a self-thought 3D artist before dedicating himself to his personal practice. He graduated from the Paris School of fine arts (Beaux-Arts) in 2024. He has exhibited his work in local venues.
Using installations and moving images, his practice explores the emergence of the digital image as an unprecedented disruption in representation, bringing into question our relationship to reality. Drawing from first hand experience with digital software, Gillet interrogates what V. Flusser termed "structural thinking": A new way of conceptualising human narration that follows historical consciousness, inherited from writing. His work also highlights the tangible imprints of virtuality that seep into reality: green screens, motion-capture, tracking markers, 3D scans, and LED screens become symbols of a paradoxical dialogue between the virtual and the material.
